Erectile dysfunction (also called: ED, Impotence) ED is the inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. ED can be a total inability to achieve an erection, an inconsistent ability to do so, or a tendency to sustain only brief erections.  ED affects as many as 30 million men in the United States. Incidence increases with age: About 4 % of men in their 50s and nearly 17 % in their 60s experience a total inability to achieve an erection. The incidence jumps to 47 percent for men older than 75.2 But ED is not an inevitable part of aging. ED is treatable at any age. (National Institutes of Health).  Our doctor’s can offer several new treatments for ED. For many men, getting more exercise (including Kegel Exercises), losing weight, and stopping smoking (if a smoker) have all been shown to help. Others will respond by taking a pill however patients with Low T will generally fare better with a pill and testosterone.  Some will require a more aggressive treatment injection therapy.  Stress, sleep deprivation, depression, and chronic medical illnesses can also cause ED.  We perform a comprehensive medical evaluation to determine the underlying cause of your ED.  Call today and schedule your ED evaluation (727) 729-9000

FDA approved common PDE5 Inhibitor tablets Viagra®, Levitra®, Cialis® and other medications for Erectile Dysfunction (ED). PDE-5 inhibitors relax smooth muscles in the penis, which increases blood flow to the area, helping the penis become erect during sexual activity. About 80% of men who take PDE-5 inhibitors have firmer and longer-lasting erections.

The process is mediated by a spinal reflex and incorporates sensory and mental stimuli. The balance between factors that stimulate contraction and relaxation determines the tone of penile vasculature and the smooth muscle of the corpus cavernosum. In humans, the L-arginine–nitric oxide–guanylyl cyclase–cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) pathway is the key mechanism of penile erection.

Starting around age 25, natural production of your major hormones, including Growth Hormone, and Testosterone, begins to plateau. In general, after the age of 30, these levels begin their decline affecting  quality of life as it relates to natural hormonal decline. Low testosterone is also linked with many of the conditions that lead to erectile dysfunction for example metabolic syndrome, obesity,
and diabetes.  Testosterone therapy can improve performance, lack of motivation, depression, mood swings, sleep issues, sex drive and satisfaction with sex in many men. However, the long-term risks and benefits of testosterone replacement are unknown.
